UCI Match Day
In an emotional, virtual ceremony future physicians at UCI School of Medicine learned where they’ll start their careers as doctors. About a third of the class of 2021 will be staying at UCI for their residencies!
Future Residents
After promoting racial diversity in medicine, mental health among classmates and greater access to healthcare while at UCI, graduating medical students Ariana Naaseh, Kaosoluchi Enendu and Alfonso Ortiz Cruz learned they will serve their residencies at Washington University in St. Louis, Yale University and UCSF, respectively.

In the midst of a raging pandemic, the importance of science communication is indisputable. … It matters how we respond in these moments. As (UCI faculty) Cailin O’Connor and James Owen Weatherall wrote in this magazine in 2019, the “social transmission of knowledge is at the heart of culture and science.”
Adria L. Imada, UCI professor of history writes, “Yet the recent history of medical quarantine cautions that there will be no return to a pre-pandemic normal, no matter how fast and effective biomedical cures and vaccine rollouts are. That’s because, while stringent public health measures may ease, the stigma, loss and memory of suffering persist. We can learn from our individual and collective pandemic experiences, rather than leave them behind.”
Natalia Bryant is getting college acceptance letters left and right! … Vanessa Bryant shared that her and the late Kobe Bryant’s eldest daughter has been accepted to the University of California Irvine. The proud mom shared Natalia’s acceptance letter, which included a GIF of a woman clapping and UCI stickers. “Yay! Closer to home,” Vanessa wrote on her Instagram Story on Friday night, also tagging her 18-year-old daughter.
