UCI public health experts are working with Pacific Symphony to bring music back to Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
“Pacific Symphony has some very unique considerations related to preventing the spread of the virus…Even without audiences present, they’ll need to take a number of precautions to stay physically distant, especially when performing music.” Karen Edwards, chair and professor of epidemiology in UCI’s Program in Public Health.

Diary of a med student: UCI duo publish ‘diary’ of peer experiences to show students they’re not alone

UCI researchers develop at-home Coronavirus saliva test
“What we’ve shown is that we are capable of detecting really low levels of the viral protein, which is promising for future accuracy of being able to catch early infections as well as infections in asymptomatic people,” Julia Zakashansky, UCI engineering doctoral student.

“It is very unfortunate and I’m hearing from my colleagues who are nurses that are the frontline, my students who work in the same setting, that things are just getting very busy and stressful. I think we’re hitting a situation where we’re going to be pretty maxed out very soon. So it’s alarming for sure,” UC Irvine epidemiologist and public health expert Sanghyuk Shin
Five months separated the deaths of Kobe Bryant and George Floyd: January 26 and May 25. Fathers of daughters they died young. Bryant was 41 years old and Floyd was 46. Apart from these similarities, the response to their untimely deaths could not be more different. How the country has responded — lauding one as exceptional and regarding the other as typical — highlights the enduring hypocrisy in confronting anti-Blackness in the United States.
